What Oshawa is, in the parts that affect this work
Oshawa carries a population of roughly 175,000 to 185,000 and remains one of the top five mid-sized advanced manufacturing clusters in North America, but the single-employer town it used to be is gone. GM's Oshawa Assembly has taken $1.5 billion of investment since 2020 and built its 500,000th truck in 2026, and it now sits alongside a healthcare and education economy anchored by Ontario Tech University and Durham College's combined 30,000-plus students. The 202-hectare Northwood Business Park at Taunton Road and Highway 407 has pulled in Lactalis Canada, Panattoni and Martin Brower onto land that was farmland within the last decade, while the Wentworth-Farewell-Stevenson Road corridor still carries decades-old machine shops and stamping suppliers that grew up around the assembly plant. Four Corners, the King and Simcoe intersection that has been the commercial core since before 1900, still has Victorian-era commercial blocks dating to the 1860s standing a few minutes' drive from a distribution centre built last year.

Downtown blocks and Northwood shells need opposite plans
Downtown, a lot of the commercial stock is solid masonry with plaster on lath and no service void above the ceiling. There is nowhere to hide a cable, and the landlord rarely wants new holes in an old brick facade. The workable plan in these units is surface raceway along a cornice or baseboard, fed through openings that already exist. We say that on the first visit rather than quote a concealed run the walls cannot take.
Northwood Business Park is the reverse. Units there are handed over as shells with the cabling decision still open, and the deadline belongs to the other trades. Tray, conduit and sleeves go in while the ceiling is open and before the floor is finished, or they go in later as surface work that costs more and looks worse.
If you are fitting out a Northwood unit, call before your trades walkthrough. If you are in a downtown block, bring the lease: it often says what you are allowed to fix to the walls.
The Wentworth, Farewell and Stevenson shops have decades of unlabelled cable
The stamping, tool-and-die and parts shops along Wentworth, Farewell and Stevenson Road grew up as suppliers to the assembly plant, and a lot of them still run out of the building they started in. The cable above the ceiling in one of these shops was not left by a departed tenant. It was added by the current one, a run at a time, as a production line moved or a second shift needed a terminal nobody had planned for.
That is a different kind of mess from an office with cable left by six past leases. Nobody had a reason to document it, because the person who ran the last cable is often still on the floor. We trace what is live before anything is cut, label what stays at both ends, and pull only what is proven dead.
On a floor that runs two shifts, the work goes in a window when the line is down. That is usually an evening or a weekend, agreed before we start.
What being based in Oshawa changes, and what it does not
It takes the drive out of the job. Coming back to add a drop or fix a label later does not mean paying for someone to cross the region. A site survey before the quote is part of every job, and here it is a short trip.
It does not take away the schedule. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm, installs in occupied buildings are usually booked for evenings or weekends, and we tell you at booking when we can actually be there.

Getting to you in Oshawa
Oshawa doesn't get a travel note in the way the other towns do, because there is nothing to disclose. This is the address on our vehicle registration, not a town we drive into. Mobilisation on an install still applies, because a van gets loaded whether the job is across town or across the region, but there is no regional travel charge here and there never will be.

Sometimes. Being local removes the drive, not the queue, so we will tell you at booking whether a same-day visit is realistic given what else is on the schedule. Planned installs are booked ahead.
Our shop on Stevenson Road has cable nobody remembers running. Do we need it removed?
Only if it's actually dead. We trace what's live with a toner before touching anything, label what stays, and pull what doesn't. Ripping out cable that turns out to be carrying a production line is a worse afternoon than leaving unused cable in place a little longer.
Our unit at Northwood is still a shell. When should we call?
Before the concrete floor is sealed if it's slab-on-grade, and before the walkthrough with your other trades if it's a standard build-out. Once the floor or the drywall is finished, every route we install becomes a surface one instead of a concealed one.
